With a 15-year career involving operational management, new product development, research, university teaching,  and information technology management, coupled with an additional 20 years of operational and technology consulting across multiple industries, Philip provides the operational consulting experience necessary to deliver practical business improvement solutions.  Because of his varied background in senior business and technology leadership positions, and his extensive consulting background, he has developed the ability to offer practical and scalable business solutions that provide immediate and sustainable improvement to middle market companies.  Understanding that business improvements are only sustainable when the challenges facing the middle market companies are matched with appropriate lean business solutions that properly leverage people, process and technology , Philip always strives to utilize a systemic and holistic approach to achieve improvement.

In his consulting practice, Philip specializes in the improvement of order-to-cash and procure-to-pay functions with middle market manufacturing companies.  In particular, Philip is an internationally recognized authority on Demand and Supply Management, and has recently been involved in a three-year research project sponsored by The Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Sloan Graduate School of Business.  Of the 11 members chosen for this research project, Philip was the only practicing consultant chosen for this industry-led group.  In addition to his expertise in inventory management, he also has considerable experience and knowledge in warehouse management, transportation management, order fulfillment and channel management.  His industry experience spans many industries including, agri-business distribution, food manufacturing, retail, petroleum and gas, pharmaceutical manufacturing, hospital supply distribution and high technology manufacturing.  This broad experience allows Philip to leverage best practices across multiple industries to create a unique business solution for each client.

Understanding the need to quickly determine opportunities and areas of improvement, Philip has successfully indentified these drivers within days of arrival on a client site.  He uses straightforward qualitative and quantitative methods to assess the current operational state and to create future operational improvements.  Importantly, these solutions are designed to be managed and continued by the company’s operational personnel after the consulting engagement has ended.

Prior to joining Harney Management Partners, Philip was a partner with Crowe Horwath, LLP and held senior and middle management positions with Miles Farm Supply, McDonald’s Corporation, Price Waterhouse, LLP, Christian Salvesen USA and Baxter Healthcare.  In additional to his operational and consulting positions, he held a research and development position with Kimberly-Clark Corporation and a research and teaching position with Michigan State University.

A published author with numerous articles focused on challenges facing middle market companies, Philip strives to share his knowledge and experience with others through his publications.  He is a frequent presenter at multiple professional conferences and is a member of the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals and the Supply Chain Council.  Philip has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and a master’s degree from Michigan State University.
